Spanish leave Saint Domingue

At this time, Toussaint, for reasons that stay odd, all of a sudden signed up with the French and turned against the Spanish, assailing his allies as they emerged from participating in mass in a church at San Raphael on six May 1794. The Haitians quickly expelled the Spanish from St. Domingue. In spite of being a previous servant, Toussaint showed to be forgiving of the white people, firmly insisting that he was fighting to assert the rights of the servants as black French people to be free. He said he didn't look for independence from France, and advised the enduring white people, and that includes the previous servant masters, to stay and work with him in reconstructing Saint-Domingue.
